Have you ever heard of serial entrepreneurs? From a startuper or a dropshipper? Setting up your company, whether as a freelancer, as a startuper or an e-merchant, is already quite a project. But some entrepreneurs have it so much in their blood that they do not hesitate to create several businesses, which they succeed thanks to their superhuman capacities to manage at the same time.

You are surely looking for an entrepreneur or startuper testimonial to help you get started. We had the pleasure of meeting Frank Houbre, CEO of the start-up MyMusicTeacher and of the Business Dynamite test laboratory specializing in e-commerce. He started by launching his startup with a friend thanks to his passion for the guitar. Over time, he develops skills in digital marketing and e-commerce and decides to share his skills through tutorials, training and advice on Business Dynamite.

At 29 years old, Frank already has more than 10 years of entrepreneurship behind him with MyMusicTeacher and Business Dynamite. Over the years, he has accompanied both budding guitarists in mastering their chords and dropshippers in choosing the right products, managing their web referencing and testing new marketing techniques.

Frank tells us more about his background and gives us his advice for developing his business!

Entrepreneur testimonial: From guitar enthusiast to startuper

A rich and atypical school career

Since his teenage years, Frank has been passionate about music. It is to be able to buy guitars that he begins his brief life as an employee. He starts with small seasonal jobs and quickly gives guitar lessons on weekends during his studies. Precisely, he likes to discover new things, which will be reflected in his choice of studies: 2 years of computer science DUT, followed by 1 year of journalism image reporter, then 1 year of Master of design... to finish on a M2 in innovation management! He comes out of this atypical career with many skills in IT, design, video editing , project management. Everything you need to finally develop your project, which is already beginning to germinate.

“What if I automate my guitar lessons?”

At 18, he began to teach guitar. While his guitar lessons take up a lot of his time, he thinks about how to automate it all. He starts with Youtube tutorials and decides to launch an online course platform that he develops during his studies. At this time, he focuses on completely free courses. It will take him several months to understand that you should not hesitate to monetize a service or content as long as it offers value to its users.

Frank then enters the Pépite program, a 6-month state-funded entrepreneurial course that helps young entrepreneurs to train and work on their project and launch their startup. At the end of this program, which he renewed for 6 months, he launched his first company MyMusicTeacher with a partner. He becomes an entrepreneur and startuper!

The beginnings of the start-up MyMusicTeacher

He quickly raised funds of more than 300,000 euros from private investors, BPIs and banks. The company focuses on guitar lessons and developing R&D of a sound recording system that allows you to follow the learner's progress live, a kind of Guitar Hero that really makes you progress on your guitar.

The turnover of the start-up and its reputation grows over time. But a major competitor is entering the French market and overshadowing MyMusicTeacher. After this failure, it took several months for the team to pivot, work tirelessly, and recover. Frank then goes through all the vagaries of life as a startuper but by remaining united with his team and his associates they manage to reinvent themselves. They're shelving overly complicated or unnecessary features and focusing on a new, easier-to-use MVP. They create several sites that revolve around the MyMusicTeacher site to attract several profile types to their online music school. They also launch several tutorials on Youtube, short courses to learn guitar pieces simply. They won the gold medal at the Lépine competition in 2016 and continue to develop abroad. My Music Teacher is now 6 employees and service providers with more than 200,000 users around the world (France, English-speaking countries and South Korea).

Frank started selling products online with his startup. He finds a supplier in China for guitar accessories (microphone, capo, etc.) that can help him improve his guitar skills. He then launched an online store that he connected at that time to MyMusicTeacher. Over time, however, they decided to focus on developing the courses and their platform so that apprentice guitarists did not have to purchase additional products to be able to use all the features of the platform.

Startuper and e-merchant: how Frank became a serial entrepreneur!

Its beginnings in e-commerce

In parallel with his life as a startuper, Frank falls into the magic potion of e-commerce and launches other online stores on Shopify or WordPress in his free time. Among them, a Ukulele shop that they launched and where he generated 180,000 euros in turnover in 3 days. He has since stopped his online store but kept this Ukulele site as an information and learning site.

Business Dynamite: Become a serial entrepreneur to create a test laboratory

He chained store launches and tests and became a serial entrepreneur. Everything he learns, he gradually decides to share on Youtube, as he had already shared guitar lessons before. This is the start of the Business Dynamite channel .

A veritable test laboratory, Frank offers his subscribers many videos where he launches an idea, tests a product, experiments with Facebook advertising or SEO techniques and shares his opportunities and warnings. Most of his projects launched on this channel are to help his community to move forward and become an expert in e-commerce and digital marketing.. For their online store launch, Frank advises entrepreneurs to work on their web referencing, but also to develop an affiliate strategy with blogs in their product niche. Finally, he also teaches them advertising techniques on social networks but focuses mainly on retargeting in order to reduce acquisition costs and make an indirect conversion. Frank therefore puts forward above all SEO techniques that will guarantee traffic over the long term. It also highlights the legal elements such as the procedures for declaring VAT, customs fees and the insurance or legal protection to be taken in order to protect its activity.

Frank also often emphasizes the importance of storytelling in marketing his product on Business Dynamite. As an example shared with his students, take a pen on a white background on AliExpress and create a brand image for it that gives it an identity. Or even this scratch-off world map that he marketed when he started out and that he called “The treasure hunter”. Dropshipping therefore begins with the promotion of its product to trigger a desire to belong and buy. Provided you have a good product.

An e-commerce activity now focused on ethical dropshipping

Frank recently launched with a partner a new online store focused on well-being and nutrition, whose traffic comes solely from SEO. He has succeeded in a few months to already generate 74,000 euros in turnover. Loving to embark on new projects, he positions shops in SEO before reselling them to make a profit or outsourcing them to dominate multiple niches. There are indeed a lot of opportunities for niches or ultra-niches that allow you to develop several sites and accumulate gains. According to Business Dynamite, SEO should be viewed as internet real estate. The more a site is positioned and ages, the more it will gain in value and will be an interesting opportunity for another company.

“Here, these products are European and mostly vegan, it's really a project that I wanted to set up in accordance with my values of protecting animals and the environment. I'm no longer interested in selling plastic products that come from AliExpress. I had started to give back money to plant trees with my dropshipping activity, but for me it was not enough and I continued to participate in this environmental pollution with my activity. So I preferred to find a quality product with a European supplier.”

Today, Frank is developing his own brand of vegan food supplements, always with the aim of building on his previous businesses. He structures his team in order to be able to manage e-commerce projects already implemented and advise potential entrepreneurs.

For example, he shared with us the results on the shop of one of his students whom he coached. By following her advice, he managed to scale his business and reach nearly 400,000 euros in turnover in a few weeks.

He also teaches about this more responsible e-commerce via his videos on his Business Dynamite channel. With these good practices on the selection of products in a short cycle, the selection of European suppliers or simple marketing techniques, he wants to show that it is possible to do dropshipping in an ethical way.

He therefore learned the basics of e-commerce thanks to his activity as a startuper My Music Teacher, but thanks to these numerous experiments on business dynamite, he can then boost traffic and sales on My Music Teacher. A beautiful virtuous circle!

Startuper, dropshipper, serial entrepreneur and trainer!

How Frank Trains Other Entrepreneurs in Digital Marketing

In addition to his many Youtube Business Dynamite tutorials, Frank has also developed paid training to develop his business in dropshipping, his visibility on Instagram and his natural referencing. This training is a CPF certified course, ie you can have it financed by the State with your CPF hours as an employee or job seeker. He also has dropshipping basics training available on Udemy . It has already supported nearly 8,000 people since the start of its training in 2018. It now also offers training in digital marketing for companies.

How to organize your time when you are a serial entrepreneur?

With these two fast-growing companies and his projects, one wonders how Frank can organize himself and move from one to the other… while not forgetting to keep some free time!

To juggle effectively between these two activities, Frank decided to cut his day in two: he works in the morning on his start-up MyMusicTeacher, and in the afternoon on his e-commerce activity with Business Dynamite. To save time, he also outsources a lot with the help of freelancers who help him with his daily tasks.

When it comes to his personal life, Frank has set himself a rule: disconnect on the weekends and try not to check his emails. He admitted to us that he did not always succeed!

What remains most important for Frank in all his businesses and his time spent is to be able to have an impact and to help entrepreneurs to test things, and to remain in constant discovery and experimentation. He therefore constantly keeps his trainer and startuper spirit based on test & learn .

The nugget to develop your business: the SEO strategy in 5 key points for long tail keywords

Among all these marketing tests, Frank advises launching a few videos on Tik Tok , which is currently a hit, as well as watching for any new high-growth social networks. If you have the right idea, it can bring you good visibility. Thanks to a TikTok video, Frank reached 3 million views and gained 80,000 subscribers within hours. Referencing on Pinterest is also to be tested, even if it requires precise targeting to be effective.

But for Frank, what works best right now, whether you're an e-merchant or a startup, is to focus your SEO content strategy on long-tail keywords in 5 key points to have free and stable traffic .

Start by buying a domain name that is no longer active but has already benefited from visibility on Google, so as not to start from nothing.

Find the most trending questions of the moment with SEO tools like Answer the public or Keywordtool.io

Answer as many of these questions as possible in articles written on your site

Then also create Youtube videos related to these same questions. Embed your videos in your article and reciprocally put a link to your article in your Youtube description.

Then you just have to ask partners in your niche to make affiliate links to further increase your off-site SEO and thus be in the first results on Google.

“Google is the first search engine in the world and Youtube, acquired by Google, is the second in terms of queries. If you cross fire and create relevant content for both platforms, you gain SEO on these queries”

Serial entrepreneur Business Dynamite's 3 tips for budding entrepreneurs

We asked Frank for his key tips for helping a future entrepreneur get started, whether as a startup or in e-commerce.

To be able to get started, here are the 3 key steps of Business Dynamite:

Start by getting started and don't hesitate: Do the simplest way to start the week. To launch your startup, start with a simple and effective MVP. To be a good startuper, you must not spend too much time in production and delay testing the product, a mistake he made with his start-up MyMusicTeacher. You have to offer your product to the user as quickly as possible, even if it means developing it later with customer feedback.

Do not think that there are magic formulas or a ready-made recipe for success. What works is ultimately the basis of commerce: respecting and retaining customers, selling quality products, and adapting all of this to Internet opportunities.

Finally, the most important thing is to believe in yourself, to surround yourself with people who support you and to accept failure. Because even if your online store or your business is a success, you will live during your journey of failures no matter what. We must therefore prepare for them, face them and emerge stronger.

So are you more of a freelancer, entrepreneur, startuper, e-merchant, trainer or like Business Dynamite all at once? Share your journey in the comments! Or if this entrepreneur testimonial boosted you, start your business!
